About Mara

I keep a camera close and the door open.

I’m a filmmaker and photographer interested in belonging — how it is built, borrowed, lost and found again. My work lives somewhere between documentary and family album.

I grew up in a house where everybody arrived through the kitchen. That may be why I’m drawn to back rooms, porches, workshops and anywhere people forget to perform for the camera.

How I work

Slowly, lightly, together.

01

Listen first

The shape of the story comes from the people living it.

02

Leave room

For weather, wrong turns, silence and the moment nobody planned.

03

Give it back

Photographs and films return to the communities that made them possible.
